Brief History of the International Whitefly Symposiums

The International Whitefly Symposium (IWS) is a result of the merger of the International Bemisia Workshop (IBWS) and the European Whitefly Symposium (EWS). The 1st IWS was held 20 – 24 May 2013 in Kolymbari, in the beautiful island of Crete, Greece and was attended by over 200 scientists, academics and private sector players from all over the world to share on the latest research and education around a broad range of whitefly (Bemisia) related issues of local, national and global interest. The 2nd IWS took place from February 14 – 19 2016 in Arusha, one of Tanzania’s top global tourist destination, whose attractions include the world famous Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Arusha National Park, part of Lake Manyara National Park and Mt Meru, the second highest peak in Tanzania.
